Teaching children with Autism and complex needs KS2 & KS3 

 

Our school provides holistic and therapeutic education to children with Autism/ASC, complex needs, Severe Learning Difficulties, and Profound Multiple Learning Difficulties. As a Complex Needs Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering lessons that cater to the specific needs of each child. You will work closely with other members of the teaching and support staff to ensure that every child is able to achieve their full potential.

This full-time role is available from September 2024, and the daily rate aligns with the main pay scale, and it will be paid via PAYE. The successful Complex Needs Teacher will have experience working with children with Autism/ASC, complex needs, Severe Learning Difficulties, and Profound Multiple Learning Difficulties and be passionate about making a difference in their lives. You will be patient, empathetic, and able to create a safe and nurturing learning environment for your students.

** Complex Needs Teacher's Responsibilities **

  • Develop and deliver an appropriate curriculum that is tailored to the individual needs of each student, ensuring that each child's learning objectives are met.
  • Work with other teachers and support staff to plan and deliver high-quality lessons that engage and inspire students, using various teaching strategies to support different learning styles and abilities.
  • Assess and monitor students' progress, using a range of tools and techniques to evaluate their learning and adjust teaching methods accordingly.
  • Work closely with parents, carers, and other professionals to ensure that the needs of each child are met and that they receive the support and care they require.
  • Attend regular meetings with senior leadership and support staff to discuss the progress and welfare of students, sharing information and strategies to ensure that each child receives the best possible education.
  • Maintain accurate records of students' progress and attendance, ensuring that all documentation is up-to-date and compliant with relevant legislation and policies.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, keeping up-to-date with best practices and emerging research in the field of SEN teaching.
  • Provide a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment for students, promoting positive behaviour and relationships, and supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of each child.

 

** Ideal Complex Needs Teacher **

Qualifications required for this position; a recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE or QTS) and experience working in a special education setting with children who have complex mental health needs and learning difficulties. The successful candidate will also need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be patient and empathetic, and have a deep commitment to ensuring that every child receives the best possible education and support.
