Speech and Language Therapist / SALT – SEMH setting – Newham

Are you seeking an autonomous role in a SEND school? 

Are you a qualified Speech and Language Therapist looking to work in a specialist SEMH setting with a therapeutic approach?

About the School

The school caters for primary and secondary aged students with adverse childhood experiences including trauma and support children who have a range of social, emotional, mental health and learning needs.

The specialist school has an excellent OFSTED report and have strong community links.

The school offers a wide range of therapies including Music, Drama, Play, Integrative, Family, Canine, SALT, Occupational, Educational Psychology and CAHMS.

What you can expect as a Speech and Language Therapist / SALT

As a Speech and Language Therapist you will have previously worked with children and young people who present challenging behaviour and who have complex social, emotional, and mental health needs. You will work therapeutically both one to one and in small groups. You will also offer structured weekly sessions as well as sessions in the moment when therapy is required. The school are looking for an individual who can drive communication across the school sites in East London. They are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist who can offer assessments and work with a multidisciplinary team of therapists and SEND professionals. You will also work closely with the CAHMS specialist at the school.

Speech and Language Therapist Requirements

  • Fully qualified and registered with appropriate body (i.e HCPC)
  • A range of experience in your own specialism but also an understand of wider therapies
  • Experienced in settings working with children with SEND and complex needs
  • Understanding of mental health in children including (ACE), attachment behaviour, trauma and the impact of abuse
