I am currently working with a fantastic SEND school based in Hillingdon. They seek an Autism Specialist to join a supportive and positive team. This position is full-time and has an immediate start date. If you really want to kick start your career in SEND support, this is your role! In this Autism Specialist role, you would encounter various students with Autism / ASC and various learning difficulties. You would be required to work alongside a team of Speech and Language Therapists and Art Therapists. This position best suits someone with experience supporting children and young people in 121 settings. You would have primary responsibility of one pupil; however, there would be a requirement to assist across other classes if needed.
What to expect as an Autism Specialist TA:
- Integrating the creative arts into the curriculum such as music, art, drama and dance
- As an Autism Support Worker, you will participate in a wide range of activities to promote the pupils' cognitive, cultural, social, physical, and emotional well-being.
- You must work alongside the teacher to create a plan and deliver learning activities
- You must monitor how the children are developing and set targets for them to reach
- Work alongside different professionals, including nurses, Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists.
- As an Autism Support Worker, you will have to interact with the children through the use of play-based and sensory-related activities.
The Ideal Autism Specialist TA:
- Has a personal interest in working with young people with Autism and associated learning difficulties
- Already has some experience working with children with Special needs
- The ideal Autism Support Worker will be able to build strong and meaningful relationships with staff and students
- Perhaps you are a recent Graduate and you are looking to kickstart your career in an SEN School setting
- The ideal Autism Support Worker will have a positive, patient, and proactive personality type with a desire to learn.

I am working with an amazing and truly inspiring specialist setting that caters to students whose needs include severe SEMH, trauma and ASC, the primary aged students will have been removed from several mainstream Schools and other provisions, this setting strongly believe in a no-exclusions policy and all staff are committed to working hard to nurture every student into becoming a confident and happy individual who will enjoy learning. They have small classrooms of 3 or 4 children and different areas in the setting dependant on severity of needs. They have an excellent Art, Occupational and SaLT on site that deliver interventions on a one-to-one basis or small group sessions. This setting really is a remarkable place to work with a remarkable SLT. It is always desirable to have worked in a similar specialist setting before but if you are an experienced mainstream primary teacher who has the passion to fully commit to teaching and nurturing students with SEN then please get in touch.
Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desirable but unqualified teachers with SEMH teaching experience are also welcome to apply
Understanding of trauma / ACEs / Nurture
Understanding of SEN and the ability to differentiate teaching strategies to meet individual student needs
