Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people? Do you have a therapeutic, holistic approach to education, and a deep understanding of trauma-informed practices? If so, we are looking for a committed and compassionate Cover Supervisor to join a dedicated team at a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Newham.
About the school:
This PRU provides a supportive and nurturing environment for children and young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including those who may have experienced trauma or adverse childhood experiences. We focus on helping them achieve their full potential through a tailored, therapeutic approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the planning and delivery of lessons, working alongside teaching staff.
- Take responsibility for the class in the absence of the teacher, ensuring that learning objectives are met.
- Support students’ pastoral needs, helping them manage their emotions and behaviours.
- Assist with behaviour management and implement strategies for de-escalation and emotional regulation.
- Work closely with other staff to deliver a trauma-informed approach to education, recognising the impact of adverse experiences on students' behaviour and learning.
- Develop positive relationships with students, understanding their individual needs, and providing a consistent, caring presence.
- Liaise with other professionals, including SENCOs, therapists, and external agencies, to ensure holistic support for each student.
Requirements:
- Experience working within a PRU or with students with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or other vulnerabilities.
- A trauma-informed approach, with the ability to understand and manage the impact of trauma on learning and behaviour.
- Strong behaviour management skills, with a patient, compassionate, and therapeutic approach to working with students.
- Experience supporting students with diverse needs, including SEMH and complex behaviours.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and external professionals.
Desirable:
- Training or experience in therapeutic interventions, mental health, or trauma-informed care.
- A qualification in education, counselling, or a related field.
- An understanding of restorative justice practices.
