We are seeking a dedicated and resilient 1:1 Support Mentor to work with a young man who has Autism with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) and challenging behaviour. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in a young person’s life by providing tailored academic and emotional support.

The Role:

As a 1:1 Support Mentor, you will:

  • Provide daily academic support, both in and out of class.

  • Offer mentoring focused on social, emotional, and well-being development.

  • Work closely with teaching staff and SEND teams to implement strategies tailored to the student’s needs.

  • Use strong behaviour management techniques to create a calm and supportive learning environment.

  • Engage the pupil through their personal interests, particularly in History, to build rapport and encourage positive learning experiences.

  • Supporting the pupil's dysregulation is key here, so you must be confident in supporting this. 

  • Be present in lessons, support transitions, and ensure consistency throughout the school day.

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven experience in working with young people with SEND and challenging behaviour.

  • A strong foundation in academic support, ideally across a range of subjects.

  • Someone who has a good sense of humour and able to engage in the pupil's interests.

  • Allow the pupil to get his emotions and struggles off his chest, allow him time to vent. 

  • Supportive of outbursts and dysregulation, and offer reassurance. 

  • Excellent communication and de-escalation skills.

  • A patient, consistent, and empathetic approach to mentoring.

  • A genuine interest in History and the ability to discuss and engage the pupil in this subject.

  • Team player attitude with the initiative to work independently when needed.
