I am working with an incredible SEN school in the Royal Borough of Richmond Upon Thames, who are looking to hire a MLD Teacher to join their wonderful team on a permanent basis. This is for the September start.
What to expect as a MLD Teacher:
- The opportunity to work in a specialist SEN school where creativity is valued
- Ongoing professional development and training available
- Generous PPA time!
- Teaching small classes (up to 7 children per class) and working closely with other teachers, Teaching Assistants, and multi-disciplinary team
- Teaching children ages 11 to 16 with Speech and Language Communication Needs (SLCN) and associated learning difficulties, including Autism
Requirements of a MLD Teacher:
- Must have a QTS or QTLS
- A dedicated and dynamic personality.
- The ability to teach GCSE, Entry Level, and Functional Skills
- To work with SEN staff and support staff (including prior discussion and joint planning) in order to benefit from their specialist knowledge and to maximise their effectiveness within lessons
- Experience teaching pupils with SEN, although we welcome applications from qualified teachers currently working in mainstream schools, looking to work in the SEN field
- To contribute towards the implementation of EHCPs as detailed in the current Code of Practice, particularly the planning and recording of appropriate actions and outcomes related to set targets
- Previous experience teaching primary would be highly valued for this role
- The school would be happy to consider newly qualified teachers

About the role
Providing classroom support
8 students per class with a minimum of 3 support staff
Literacy and Numeracy support
Building a good relationship with the child you are working with
Interacting with children through play-based and sensory-related activities
Assisting the class teacher with planning, preparing, and delivering learning activities as well as monitoring and assessing children’s achievement and progress
Managing behavioural challenges
Working closely with a multidisciplinary team including Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists.
