Do you have a passion and talent for supporting children and young people who cannot access mainstream education due to their social, emotional and mental health?

We are looking for an experienced Learning Mentor for a year 10 class of 8 students, this will be a class-based role supporting the behaviour of the learners.

This role is based within a SEMH specialist setting in Newham, for students who for many reasons are unable to access mainstream education.

Even if your experience is informal/voluntary, we want to hear from you! The children you will support will have a variety of needs which can include significant complex behavioural challenges.

PRU Learning Mentors requirements:

  • Experience in working with young people with SEMH, Autism, behavioural issues, Trauma, Sensory processing, social communication
  • If you have a passion for sports, this is something you can bring into the role.
  • Learning Mentor/ Youth Worker experience -SEMH Teaching Assistant
  • Ability to build strong and meaningful relationships and to be a role model
  • A passion for working with SEND is essential

Mainstream schools, where you will be working with a student with SEND 1:1 or in small groups ARP's (Alternative Resourced Provision) attached to a mainstream school, where the small group of children will all have a SEND diagnosis and are struggling to cope within the mainstream part of the school PRU's (Pupil Referral Unit) , where the students are unable to access mainstream education due to behavioural needs Specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health) settings and outreach services, where the young people cannot access mainstream school due to a SEMH diagnosis, complex needs and trauma SEND schools, where the students will all have a SEND diagnosis and EHCP (Educational , Health and Care Plan), this may be ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) , ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) complex needs, PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities) , these roles may require assisting with personal care (washing, dressing, toileting, and eating What experience do i need?
