About the Role

SEND Teacher – PMLD and Complex Needs
Location: Barking and Dagenham, East London
Start Date: September 2025 (Permanent)
Salary: Inner London MPS or UPS plus SEN Allowance

Where purpose meets practice
In one of East London’s most thoughtful specialist schools, meaningful education is not just a slogan — it is the daily reality.

We are working with a forward thinking, quietly exceptional school in Barking and Dagenham that is looking for a committed SEND teacher to join their team this September. This is a full time, permanent role supporting learners with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), complex needs, and diverse communication profiles.

This is not a typical classroom — and that is exactly the point
You will not find box ticking or behaviour charts masquerading as support here. Instead, you will be teaching in a setting where every space, every system, every moment is designed for connection, communication, and care.

What sets this school apart?

A design with dignity in mind
From sensory integration to communication aids, the learning environment has been purpose built for students with the most complex needs. Education here is holistic, therapeutic, and deeply human.

Collaboration that actually works
You will be surrounded by a strong, stable network of teaching assistants, therapists, and senior leaders who share the load and listen. You will never feel like you are doing it all alone.

Professional growth with depth
Whether you are new to this type of setting or bring years of SEND experience, your development will be meaningful — grounded in practice, tailored to you, and never an afterthought.

A culture of care for everyone
This is a place where staff wellbeing is not just talked about — it is embedded in the ethos. From realistic workloads to responsive leadership, you will be supported to thrive as well as teach.

Who are we looking for?

  • A qualified teacher (QTS or equivalent) with a passion for inclusive education

  • Someone who recognises that behaviour is communication — and approaches it with patience, empathy, and structure

  • Skilled in or open to learning alternative communication strategies (such as Makaton or PECS) and sensory based approaches

  • Calm, creative, and committed to truly individualised learning pathways

In return, you will receive:

  • A permanent teaching role in a high trust, high support specialist school

  • Access to exceptional resources and multidisciplinary expertise

  • Continuing professional development that is ongoing, personalised, and practically useful

  • A long term recruitment partner in Parker Smith Inclusion, who understand the sector and value your commitment

This is more than a job
It is a chance to make education work for children who need us most — and to be part of a team that is quietly, powerfully changing lives.
