SEMH Teacher
Chelmsford
Essex
PERM Position
As a Primary Teacher, you already understand the challenges involved in educating young minds. The journey is as much social as it is academic. When that journey takes place within a specialist SEN school, those challenges can be amplified—yet the sense of fulfilment and emotional reward from pupils’ achievements are even greater.
This school recognises that you are the greatest influence on your pupils. Your classroom is your own—its set-up, structure and teaching assistant support are all down to you. You have the freedom to tailor your lessons to suit your pupils’ individual needs, because you know them best. As you grow in the role and embrace greater responsibility, your influence naturally grows too.
The teaching team coming together at this exceptional school are all passionate about engaging children in learning—creating experiences and approaches that support them throughout their lives. It is hard work, but when you’re surrounded by colleagues who value collaboration, trust and rapport—both with pupils and each other—the rewards are clear to see.
Supporting children across both the Primary and Secondary phases, the teaching team share a strong bond. There is excellent TA support, and members of the Senior Leadership Team are carefully chosen to provide guidance across all areas.
This purpose-built SEMH school offers extensive resources and a bespoke environment designed to enhance the curriculum. As you enter, a bright and spacious atrium reception greets you, immediately reflecting the school’s inspiring design for both pupils and staff. Although the school is still building towards full capacity, small class sizes will always remain a core part of its model. Classes are grouped by ability, creating greater opportunities for shared progress among pupils.
The Headteacher is deeply committed to supporting every member of staff, with a structured CPD programme designed to help you grow and develop within your role. She listens to her teams and understands what’s needed and when. As the school continues to expand and reach its full potential, so too will the teaching teams who are currently helping to shape its culture.
If you’re transitioning from a mainstream setting, or are an ECT, the school will guide you through SEN training and curriculum adaptation to ensure you feel fully supported.
Located in Chelmsford, the school is easily accessible, with on-site parking making the commute straightforward from any direction.

Secondary SEND Teacher - Primary Functioning
Hackney
North East London
M2 - M6 with SEND Point
SEN Secondary Teacher with Specialist Primary Functioning
Long Term
January 2026 Start
M2 - M6 Pay Scale
Parker Smith Inclusion are supporting a secondary special school that caters for 11 - 17 year olds that have diagnoses of Speech Language Communication Needs and Moderate Learning Difficulties. The students may also be facing social emotional mental health needs (SEMH) and have dysregulated behaviours.
The students are secondary aged but are academically functioning at approximately Year 2 or Year 3 primary level. None of the students in the school are appropriate for mainstream secondary therefore I'm looking for candidates that have the ability to understand this and meet the students where they are at, not where you'd expect them to be, encouraging learning through play and creating friendships.
We are looking for a patient, resilient, nurturing SEN Teacher on a long term basis, with the potential to become permanent within two terms.
This role requires using teaching styles and strategies appropriate for primary learning. There are a high proportion of primary trained teachers currently working here because that is the curriculum level the students are working at.
What We Are Looking For
Experience and Background:
Substantial long-term experience working with young people is required.
While we find that primary teachers often do very well in this role, candidates must have an understanding of secondary education and the needs that come with teenagers.
Special school experience, especially at the secondary level, is preferred.
Skills and Approach:
You must be an empathetic, nurturing, and patient person.
Staff need to be aware of the challenges and needs that the students have.
Crucially, you must be willing to get involved, and actively encourage friendships, relationships, and interaction (including promoting play).
You must meet the students "where they're at, not where you expect them to be".
We require flexible individuals. Staff must understand the mixture of the students' age-appropriate behavior alongside their lower functional level.
If this role is of interest to you and you'd want to find out more information, please apply or call Elise @ Parker Smith Inclusion on 0203 011 4848.
