We are currently looking for a Functional Curriculum Class Teacher for an exciting opportunity for a fantastic school based in Wimbledon.  The school are currently in the process of expanding their Education for Life curriculum. The students on this course will be practicing real-life skills in real contexts such as learning about money by buying something in a shop or learning about literacy by reading menus and road signs. Overall the goal is for the students to develop their literacy and numeracy skills alongside a broad and diverse curriculum which will also teach them skills they can use in every day life.

 

The school

The school caters for children who have a primary diagnosis of Speech and Language Communication Needs (SLCN) and associated learning difficulties. Many children have Autism / ASC.

The school provides an excellent education for children with additional needs, and they really care about their staff members' well-being and mental health. They also have incredible facilities and resources available. 

 

The role

 

  • Planning, teaching and delivering an adapted functional curriculum with a maximum class size of 6 pupils
  • The curriculum will largely follow the guidelines of the Equals Curriculum, experience teaching functional or adapted curriculum's would be beneficial.
  • Creating schemes of work that equip the students with the educational, functional needs and life skills that are essential to their success in the world at large 

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Passion for teaching and learning as well as having a positive impact on their students 
  • A relevant teaching qualification
  • Experience with Equals curriculum is favourable but not essential 
  • Experience and/or interest in working with students with moderate learning difficulties, language disorders, ASD and ADHD
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with AAD and/or Makaton is desirable but not essential 
  • The ability to manage a small group of children with social communication needs

 

Start Date - September 2024

Permanent 

£35,00 - £45,000 dependent on experience

Full Time - 8.30am - 5pm
