BSL Teaching Assistant / Communication Support Worker – Primary School
Richmond, South West London
£95–£110 per day (PAYE, term-time only)
Full-time, long-term placement | ASAP start
About the Role
Some children hear the world differently. For them, communication is connection. When a pupil finally understands a story, a joke, or a simple “well done” through your signing, it’s magic. That’s the difference you’ll make every single day.
We are working with a warm and inclusive primary school in Richmond that supports both deaf and hearing pupils. The school has a well-established HI Unit and works closely with Teachers of the Deaf, Speech and Language Therapists, and a small team of signing specialists.
As a BSL Teaching Assistant/Communication Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in making learning accessible and enjoyable for every child.
Key Responsibilities
Support pupils who are deaf or have partial hearing loss across EYFS and Key Stages 1–2
Use British Sign Language (BSL) and visual communication strategies to bring lessons to life
Build pupils’ confidence, independence, and social skills
Work collaboratively with Teachers of the Deaf, classroom teachers, and therapists
Adapt communication so every child feels included and understood
About You
Hold BSL Level 2, or BSL Level 1 with strong practical or personal signing experience (e.g. deaf family members or experience in the Deaf community)
Patient, empathetic, and passionate about inclusive education
Find joy in small achievements: a child’s first signed story, a moment of shared laughter, or a breakthrough in confidence
Looking for a long-term, stable role where you can truly make a difference
Why Join This School
Supportive, close-knit team specialising in deaf education
Opportunities for ongoing BSL training and progression (up to Level 3 and beyond)
Inclusive, nurturing environment where staff and pupils are equally valued
PAYE pay only – no umbrella deductions
Long-term stability with potential for a permanent position
If you are an enthusiastic BSL Teaching Assistant or Communication Support Worker looking for your next role in a caring Richmond primary school, apply today or contact Heeji Moon at Parker Smith Inclusion.

Full-Time, Temp-to-Perm | Barking and Dagenham
Start Date: Immediate
Pay: £90 per day (PAYE)
Be the Person Who Helps Every Pupil Thrive
For some young people, school can feel confusing, overwhelming, or even unsafe. They may struggle to connect, communicate, or engage. But with the right support, every young person can feel understood and confident. That’s where you come in.
A School Where Every Interaction Counts
This fantastic secondary school in Barking and Dagenham specialises in supporting children and young people with ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition). Here, learning is personalised, structured, and meaningful, with a focus on strengths rather than challenges.
Class sizes are small, giving you the chance to make a real difference. Working alongside experienced teachers and therapists, you’ll help pupils build confidence, develop independence, and reconnect with learning—sometimes for the very first time.
What You Can Expect:
A calm, structured environment designed for success for both pupils and staff
Opportunities to work closely with therapists, SENCOs, and a dedicated leadership team
Meaningful, day-to-day progress for pupils, from engaging in lessons to developing key life skills
A supportive, collaborative team who value your contribution and ideas
Who You Are:
You may already have experience supporting children or young people with ASC or other SEND, or you could come from a care, pastoral, or youth work background. Most importantly, you are patient, resilient, compassionate, and committed to helping every pupil feel safe and valued.
If you’re curious, enthusiastic, and ready to learn, the school will provide the training, mentoring, and support you need to make an immediate impact.
Your Impact Will Last a Lifetime
This role isn’t just a job, it’s an opportunity to change lives. From helping a pupil communicate their first words to supporting them in managing their emotions, every day is rewarding.

Using visuals, objects of reference, and assistive strategies to aid communication
Encouraging independence through structure, consistency, and clear routines

Working closely with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure joined-up support

Ready for a unique and rewarding challenge?
Are you experienced in mentoring within a school or educational setting and looking for an exciting new role? We are partnering with an inspiring, therapeutic organisation operating across London, dedicated to supporting some of the most vulnerable, high-risk, and hardest-to-reach young people – all under a strict no-exclusion policy.
In this role, you will support young people who have been out of formal education for extended periods and are not yet ready for a traditional classroom environment. You will play a key part in their induction, assessment, and transition over a two-term period, providing stability, guidance, and therapeutic support.

Making a Difference
This organisation has a proven record of success. Young people often go on to re-enter education or employment, develop emotional regulation skills, and begin processing their experiences.
Example of impact:
A young person with low attendance, multiple exclusions, PTSD, and aggressive behaviour was paired with a specialist mentor. Through consistent support and therapeutic intervention, they transitioned to a specialist school, achieved a 93% attendance rate, and are thriving on a bespoke curriculum tailored to their needs.
You could be the mentor who changes a young person’s life in this way.
Role Responsibilities:
Develop holistic learning plans to support young people’s return to education
Work outside a traditional classroom to provide therapeutic, individualised support
Support young people from disengagement to achievement and personal growth
What’s on Offer:

Opportunities to travel across London to support multiple students
What We’re Looking For:
Confidence in managing dysregulated behaviour and understanding its causes
