Your duties as Higher Level Teaching Assistant - HLTA:

  • Planning, preparing and conducting assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to small groups, the entire class or on a 1:1 basis, adjusting activities if required.
  • Liaising with higher staff to report on pupil development. You will be expected to monitor their growth over a continuous timeframe.
  • Contributing to parent/carer meetings – To provide pupil progress, achievements and assist with parental learning.
  • Supporting children's emotional well-being and, where necessary, reporting concerns to the teacher.
  • Contributing to annual reviews

 

Being a Higher Level Teaching Assistant - HLTA, you will have the advantage of undertaking further activities such as:

  • Providing varying levels of specialist support; to those where English is not their first language, learners who require support in one area such as literacy or numeracy, pupils who have behavioural, learning, social, communication, physical and sensory difficulties and students who are gifted and talented.
  • Covering lessons when required.
  • During breaks and lunchtimes, carrying out the supervision of pupils and undertaking other responsibilities when requested.
  • Contributing to the school’s abundant extracurricular programme.

 

In regards to the position of Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), it is imperative that the candidate possesses GCSEs above the grade of C+ in both Mathematics and English (or equivalent) and has completed their education to A Level standard. Although this role may be suitable for a skilled SEN Teaching Assistant at the secondary level, due to the level of responsibility involved, we require a minimum of two years of experience in a TA or a similar position. Having experience in delivering Speech and Language Intervention/Training and/or Dyslexia Intervention/Training would be particularly beneficial.
