We are very excited to offer a Higher Level Teaching Assistant - HLTA position for a secondary school in Barking and Dagenham. Your duties as Higher Level Teaching Assistant - HLTA, non-exhaustive, would include:

  • Planning, preparing and conducting assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to small groups, the entire class or on a 1:1 basis, adjusting activities if required.
  • Liaising with higher staff to report on pupil development. You will be expected to monitor their growth over a continuous timeframe.
  • Contributing to parent/carer meetings – To provide pupil progress, achievements and assist with parental learning.
  • Supporting children's emotional well-being and, where necessary, reporting concerns to the teacher.
  • Contributing to annual reviews

Being a Higher Level Teaching Assistant - HLTA, you will have the advantage of undertaking further activities such as:

  • Providing varying levels of specialist support; to those where English is not their first language, learners who require support in one area such as literacy or numeracy, pupils who have behavioural, learning, social, communication, physical and sensory difficulties and students who are gifted and talented.
  • Covering lessons when required.
  • During breaks and lunchtimes, carrying out the supervision of pupils and undertaking other responsibilities when requested.
  • Contributing to the school’s abundant extra curricula programme.

For this Higher Level Teaching Assistant – HLTA role, it is essential you possess GCSE’S above C+ for Maths and English (or equivalent) and are educated to A Level standard. However, this role would suit an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant at secondary age due to the level of responsibility expected. It is essential you have a minimum of two years’ experience in a TA or similar role and it would be particularly advantageous for the candidate to have Delivery of Speech and Language Intervention/Training and/or Dyslexia Intervention/Training. You must be inclined to acknowledge and grow from constructive criticism as staff constantly encourage development and they love flexible, hard-working, ‘going the extra mile’ individuals. It is vital you retain the ability to form optimistic relationships with students and colleagues.
