SEMH Primary Teacher
A specialist education site for pupils with social emotional and mental health problems in East London is urgently recruiting a teacher for their primary class.
Opened in 2009, this East London SEMH School has provided an environment that fosters pupil growth, both academically and personally, offering a diverse and inclusive community of pupils, teachers, therapists, support staff and parents working together. The pupils at this school have a diverse range of neurodiverse needs, including autism, social emotional and mental health, and related conditions.
About the role:
As a primary class teacher, the objective is to support the emotional and social development of KS2 students and foster a safe and nurturing learning environment. In this setting, academic progression and structured curriculum go hand in hand with pupils’ emotional wellbeing and often the focus is to engage pupils in their learning and development rather than push for results in the classroom.
Due to attachment needs, children in the SEMH environment will push and communicate needs through some challenging behaviour, including verbal and physical aggression in some cases.
The ideal candidate may have/be…
- Resilient and committed to a long-term career working with students with SEMH.
- QTS preferred.
- Relevant experience with students with challenging behaviour and in need of additional learning support.
- Creative and adaptable teacher.
- Confident leading a class and good classroom management.
