An independent SEMH School in East London are seeking a passionate, dedicated, and energetic SEMH Primary Teacher for a KS2 class.

About the school –

This school belongs to wider group offering a specialised offer to pupils not in mainstream education. Most pupils have a diagnosis of Social Emotional and Mental Health needs and Autism and Communication Needs. Pioneering a therapeutic and nurturing approach to supporting pupils with additional needs, this school opened in 2009 and has grown to work across 3 separate sites and manage an outreach service for pupils learning in community spaces and in their homes with dedicated tutors.

This East London site caters for KS2 through to KS4 and supports pupils across curriculum and into their GCSEs and post-16 qualifications.

About the role –

This SEMH School is searching for a dedicated English teacher for a KS3 class working with a lower learning level. The average reading age is around 9 years old, and the school is very focused on improving pupils’ literacy and oracy, giving them the building blocks for successful learning and articulation in their futures.

Working with pupils with SEMH can be challenging, and often pupils at this school have been excluded from mainstream education due to their behaviour, be it physical or verbal abuse towards staff or other students. To work in this SEMH School, the right candidate will understand that pupils may have experienced severe past traumas and that their behaviour is a form of communication for unmet needs and an expression of emotional that they need support to regulate.

The ideal candidate may have/be -

  • Resilient and committed to a long-term career working with students with SEMH.
  • QTS preferred.
  • Relevant experience with students with challenging behaviour and in need of additional learning support.
  • Creative and adaptable teacher.
  • Confident leading a class and good classroom management.


This role requires, resilience, determination and a nurturing, caring approach to children with mental health problems.
