SEND Teaching Assistant 

 Specialist SEND school for pupils with Complex and Moderate Learning Difficulties

We are currently working closely with an incredible SEND school based in the Ealing area. The school is primarily for children with severe/complex needs, so being confident and comfortable in this environment is a MUST!

The school is looking to appoint an energetic, patient, empathetic and skilled Teaching Assistant to be based across a mix of different year groups. As the classes are relatively small, being comfortable leading small groups or supporting on a 121 basis is important.

What are you expected to do?

  • Supporting pupils in classroom settings and in their general school day.
  • Participating and engaging in school trips and other extra-curricular activities
  • Managing behaviour, being patient, sympathetic, understanding, and having a kind and caring nature.
  • Assisting the class teacher with planning, preparing, and delivering learning activities, as well as monitoring and assessing children’s achievement and progress.
  • Working closely with the school's multi-disciplinary team and parents/ family members/ carers
  • Actively getting involved in a wide range of activities, promoting the physical, cognitive, cultural, social, and emotional well-being of the pupils
  • Actively interacting with children through play-based and sensory-related activities
  • Partaking in necessary training and being willing to adapt teaching methods per pupil.

Some of our pupils have Speech and Language Communication Needs (SLCN), and some are non-verbal. Some pupils have complex medical needs and mobility issues. You may also experience physical behavioural challenges that are associated with the needs. Some pupils may also require personal care and feeding, being comfortable carrying out personal care if needs be is important. Being able to use Makaton, Signalong or PECs is preferred.

Requirements for SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Having a passion for SEND
  • Empathy, patience, determination, kindness, caring and having the ability to build strong and meaningful relationships with staff and pupils.
  • Anyone with personal interests in supporting children and young people with learning disabilities, even having personal experiences with SEND, such as friends or family members.
  • A positive, proactive, and patient individual who has a can-do attitude and is willing to learn
  • A team player and has great communication skills
  • Good timekeeping, available Monday - Friday, Term Time Only
