Sports Mentor –  Merton 

Do you have a passion and talent for supporting children and young people with additional learning needs and mental health disorders?

Are you keen to make a difference in the lives of children and young people whilst building your experience and furthering your career in SEND/SEMH?

I am working with a mainstream secondary school based in Merton  who are looking for a TA/ Sports Mentor to work 1-1 with Students. The successful candidate will need to be good at managing behaviour and using a range of strategies to engage the student in education. The student is extremely interested in sports, particularly football and basketball.

I am looking to speak to professional and committed TAs/Sport Mentors; even if your experience is informal/voluntary, we want to hear from you!

Sports Mentor requirements

  • Essential - Passion for working with young people who require additional support to access education and social development

  • Beneficial - Experience of working with Autism, ADHD, sensory processing difficulties and learning difficulties, or experience with SEMH, trauma, sensory processing, social communication

  • Beneficial - Youth Mentor/Worker experience

  • Essential – Behavioural experience

  • Beneficial – Sports background/interest

  • Essential - Ability to build solid and meaningful relationships

What you can expect as a Sports Mentor

  • Mentor roles will vary from day to day; you will be expected to use your initiative and respond calmly in challenging situations

  • For aspiring Teachers, Pastoral Workers, Child Psychologists, Educational Psychologists, Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, SALTs, Counsellors, and Social Workers, these positions will offer a relevant and vital experience for your chosen career path

  • Continued Professional Development - SEND schools, and APs are continually training their staff to help them support their children's needs, you will become an expert in your field

  • Using sports and fitness to make a positive impact of children and young adults lives

  • You will have an opportunity to make a substantial social impact; as a Mentor, you could change the path of someone’s life!

Pay

  • We understand that pay is significant and must be clear and straightforward! For that reason, we have chosen to pay our staff via PAYE only. Quoted rates are gross pay, and your payment will never involve the employer's NI deductions or admin fees.

  • Just as roles vary, the remuneration will depend on the role requirements and your experience. You will often see these roles advertised as daily rates; please note that we pay PAYE only, and rates will vary from £75 - £95 per day, depending on the role and your experience. Full-Time Equivalent salaries are therefore £16,640 - £23,040 Per Annum; please remember that all school-based work will be term time only.
