About the Role
Complex Needs Teaching Assistant
Barnet
SEN Teaching Assistant main responsibilities:
- Providing support to students with Autism/ASC, complex needs, severe learning difficulties, profound multiple learning difficulties, and medical needs, in their academic and personal development
- Assisting students with limited mobility, including those who use wheelchairs, in accessing the school environment and participating in classroom activities
- Collaborating with teachers and other staff to create a safe and inclusive learning environment
- Implementing personalised curriculum and behaviour management strategies for students
- Supporting students in developing their communication, social, and life skills
- Assisting with personal care tasks, including feeding, toileting, and medication administration as required
Ideal SEN Teaching Assistant:
- Ideally have experience working with children and young people with Autism/ASC and complex needs, preferably in an educational or care setting
- Ideally have knowledge and experience in supporting students with physical disabilities and mobility issues, including wheelchair users
- May have worked as a care worker or care assistant
- May have relevant qualifications and/or degrees such as Health and Social Care, Psychology, Criminology, or Nursing
- Aspiring educational psychologists, therapists, or educators
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude toward supporting students with diverse needs
