About the Role

Hair and Beauty Instructor (BTEC Level 2)
Salary: Paid to Scale (Unqualified Teachers)
Location: London Borough of Redbridge

Are you an experienced and passionate Hair and Beauty professional with the skills to teach BTEC Level 2? Do you want to make a real difference in the lives of young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? This could be the perfect role for you!

We are working with a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) based in the London Borough of Redbridge, which is seeking a dedicated Hair and Beauty Instructor. This school caters to students aged 11-16 with SEMH needs who are unable to attend mainstream education. Your role will involve teaching and guiding these students through their BTEC Level 2 Hair and Beauty qualification, helping them develop essential vocational skills and personal growth.

About the Role: As a Hair and Beauty Tutor in this specialist PRU, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and practical lessons to students with complex emotional and behavioural challenges. You will work closely with other staff members to support the students' academic and social development, providing a safe and nurturing environment that encourages positive learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver BTEC Level 2 Hair and Beauty lessons tailored to meet the needs of students with SEMH difficulties.
  • Provide practical and theoretical instruction, assessing student progress and ensuring they meet the BTEC course requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider SEMH team, helping to create a supportive, calm, and structured learning environment.
  • Use your skills and knowledge to motivate and inspire students, helping them develop vocational skills while also supporting their emotional and behavioural development.
  • Understand and manage challenging behaviour, using strategies to engage students effectively.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Experience teaching Hair and Beauty, ideally with BTEC Level 2 or similar vocational qualifications.
  • A relevant Hair and Beauty qualification (a teaching qualification is desirable but not essential).
  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs, or in a similar setting such as a PRU, would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with students.
  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to teaching students with behavioural and emotional challenges.
  • A passion for supporting vulnerable young people and helping them succeed both personally and academically.

What You Can Expect:

  • A rewarding and challenging role working within a specialist PRU setting.
  • The opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of students with SEMH needs.
  • A highly supportive team and access to ongoing professional development.
  • Competitive salary paid to scale, for both qualified and unqualified teachers.
  • The chance to contribute to the positive outcomes of young people who need a fresh start and positive guidance.

If you are ready for a role where you can combine your passion for Hair and Beauty with a desire to support and inspire students with SEMH needs, we would love to hear from you. To apply, please send your CV and cover letter to elisha@psinclusion.co.uk, or apply directly through this advert.
