PRU Setting
Are you a PSHE teacher within a mainstream setting and want to transition into a PRU setting? Do you have a passion for supporting disadvantaged children with life skills? Are you wanting a new challenge for your next position?
Working in a PRU setting is a challenging but rewarding environment, they are now moving to a nurture way of teaching meaning that PSHE is one of their main subjects to teach to small groups to implement social skills, behaviour management, sexual education and life skills in the students everyday learning.
When working in this type of environment you really get the sense of a big family as you can all support on one another and discuss strategies, ideas and new ways of positive learning. What matters most is the support on the ground, with a lot of hands on teaching required, meeting the children where they are at not where you expect them to be, you must have resilience, patience, empathy and understanding.
All of the children you will be teaching will have a social, emotional, mental health need, as well as, learning difficulties, language barriers, communication barriers, reading & writing needs and/or special education needs, it is an all round requirement to meet the needs of every student so you will have to use incitive, adaptability and get creative!
If this role speaks to you and you want to start your transition into a PRU setting, or you're simply looking for a new position like this from September, please feel free to get in touch with Elise @ Parker Smith Inclusion and I can have an informal chat about your experience.
