SEN Teaching Assistant

Full-time (term time only), Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 16:00pm
£85 - £98 PAYE per day, weekly payment
I am working with a friendly and supportive school in Kingston Upon Thames to support students with Autism and Severe to Profound Learning Difficulties (SLD / PMLD). In this SEN Teaching Assistant role, you will be working alongside various professionals in a bespoke building with a range of sensory rooms, a hydrotherapy pool and therapists. You will support students with various activities that promote mobility and sensory needs.
SEN Teaching Assistant's main responsibilities:
- Providing support to students with Autism/ASC, complex needs, severe learning difficulties, profound multiple learning difficulties, and medical needs in their academic and personal development
- Assisting students with limited mobility, including those who use wheelchairs, in accessing the school environment and participating in classroom activities
- Collaborating with teachers and other staff to create a safe and inclusive learning environment
- Implementing personalised curriculum and behaviour management strategies for students
- Supporting students in developing their communication, social, and life skills
- Assisting with personal care tasks, including feeding, toileting, and medication administration as required
Ideal SEN Teaching Assistant:
- Ideally, have experience working with children and young people with Autism/ASC and complex needs, preferably in an educational or care setting
- Ideally, have knowledge and experience in supporting students with physical disabilities and mobility issues, including wheelchair users
- May have worked as a care worker or care assistant
- May have relevant qualifications and/or degrees such as Health and Social Care, Psychology, Criminology, or Nursing
- Aspiring educational psychologists, therapists, or educators
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude toward supporting students with diverse needs
