The Role

We are seeking an experienced and empathetic 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a secondary student with challenging behaviour, issues with engagement, and the need for extra support. The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping the student manage dysregulated behaviour and succeed academically and socially.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a secondary student with challenging behaviour.
  • Implement strategies to help manage and reduce dysregulated behaviour.
  • Work closely with the student to improve engagement and participation in school activities.
  • Assist with the implementation of the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) and behaviour management plan.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and other professionals to monitor and review the student’s progress.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support the student in developing coping strategies and social skills.
  • Communicate effectively with the student’s parents/carers, providing regular updates on progress and any concerns.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Experience working with secondary students with challenging behaviour and dysregulated behaviour.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and establish trust with students.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
