Job Overview:

An incredible opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Head Teacher to join a specialised provision for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health support needs. The school embraces therapeutic and trauma informed approachs as well as promoting reflective and restorative practices. 

As an Assistant Head Teacher, you will work closely with the senior leadership team to positive impact the students, their families and the teams within the school in continuing on the journey of improvement, development and innovation. The key objective of the role would be to provide leadership, management, pastoral support including behaviour for learning, personal development, student attainment and performance management of staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspire and lead a team of dedicated teachers, inspiring a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with the Headteacher and other key staff to help shape the direction of the school and ensure the highest standards of teaching and learning.
  • Provide guidance and support to teachers to deliver outstanding and tailored education experiences to students with SEMH and Autism.
  • Drive professional development initiatives, offering mentorship and resources to help teachers excel in their roles
  • Ensure an inclusive learning environment that caters to the unique needs of students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs and additional needs.
  • To guide in developing and managing the teaching and learning of key student groups
  • To perform teaching duties and other assigned tasks as directed by the Headteacher
  • Support with the safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

 

Requirements:

  • Qualified teacher status and special education needs experience- Experience in a specialist or mainstream school is welcome.
  • Designated Safeguarding Lead experience
  • Applicants seeking a step up from middle leadership to senior leadership are encouraged to apply, and previous experience as a Senior Leader would be an advantage but not a requirement.
  • Having experience leading school improvement with a clear understanding of what constitutes an outstanding provision, and the ability to support and develop towards this goal.
  • A track record of outstanding teaching and a deep understanding of best practices in special education
  • Holds a good understanding of the new Ofsted Education Inspection Framework and Independent School Standards
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with staff
  • A desire for continuous professional development in special education
