About the Behaviour Mentor / Learning Mentor position

Are you passionate about supporting young people facing significant challenges? We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Behaviour Mentor / Learning Mentor to join our friendly mainstream primary school in Merton, South West London. This role involves working with children who exhibit challenging behaviour and social-emotional mental health needs and come from vulnerable backgrounds. Some children may have other associated needs, including Autism/ASC, ADHD, and Global Development Delay (GDD), 

Behaviour Mentor / Learning Mentor's key responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and group support to students, helping them to manage their behaviour and emotions.
  • Develop and implement individual behaviour plans tailored to each student's needs.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students to encourage their personal and academic growth.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to provide holistic support.
  • Engage and motivate students using creative approaches, such as sports, music, drama, or art.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing regular feedback to the team and parents/carers.
  • Promote a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Behaviour Mentor / Learning Mentor's requirements

  • A genuine commitment to supporting young people from vulnerable backgrounds.
  • Previous experience working with children displaying challenging behaviour and social, emotional, and mental health issues.
  • Experience in youth work, sports, music, drama, or art is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
