HLTA - South East London

Do you have a passion and talent for supporting children and young people who cannot access mainstream education and mental health disorders?

I am actively seeking an engaging and passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant / HLTA to work in a SEMH specialist setting that provides education to children who are unable to be educated in a mainstream school due to their social-emotional and mental health needs.

I am looking to speak to professional and committed Higher Level Teaching Assistants to work in a SEMH setting in the South East London area.

The role is working within the secondary department supporting behaviour and learning in class settings.

PRU setting - HLTA Teacher

We are looking for an High-Level Teaching Assistant for a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) based in Southeast London. The school caters to students who cannot access mainstream education and sometimes have an EHCP (SEMH, ASD, ADHD). The students may have suffered adverse childhood experiences, including trauma and toxic stress and require an individual and holistic approach to their learning and support.

We support Education providers that educate children and young people who, for many reasons, cannot access any other formal educational settings – these are the most vulnerable, at-risk and hard to reach in our community. Understanding their SEMH needs must be met before any academic development can happen. Understanding their SEMH needs is essential in these roles, and we are seeking individuals who can make a positive impact.

  • You enjoy using a therapeutic approach to teaching.
  • Experience with SEMH, Trauma, Sensory processing, social communication teaching background.
  • Previous experience working with emotional regulation and positive behaviour/de-escalation strategies desirable

What you can expect back from this HLTA role

  • Experience working in specialist settings for young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs
  • Working with Multidisciplinary therapy teams

Although experience teaching in SEMH specialist settings/PRU/Alternative Provision is beneficial, I would also love to hear from individuals interested in taking their first steps into SEND settings.
