Emotional and Behavioural Support Assistant
Specialist School | Richmond, South West London
If you are looking for a role where relationships come before routines and emotional safety sits at the centre of the day, this SEMH Teaching Assistant position in Richmond could be the right next step.
This specialist setting supports children and young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, often shaped by trauma, anxiety, attachment differences, and disrupted education. These pupils need steady, emotionally intelligent adults who can hold boundaries while offering understanding and consistency.
This role is not easy. It is meaningful, challenging, and genuinely life changing for the young people you support.

Graduates considering careers in teaching, psychology, social work, youth work, or therapy
Teaching Assistants or Behaviour Mentors with SEMH experience
Individuals with personal or professional experience of trauma informed care
Calm, patient, emotionally intelligent adults
People seeking long term, purposeful work rather than a short term role

Autism Teaching Assistant
HounslowNorth West London£90 - £100
Autism Teaching Assistant
Specialist SEND School | Hounslow, West London
Full time | Long term contract | Start ASAP
£90 to £100 per day PAYE depending on experience
This is an opportunity to work in a specialist SEND school where children and young people are genuinely understood, valued, and supported as individuals.
The school supports pupils aged 2 to 19 with Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties, complex social and emotional needs, and sensory differences. It is a calm, welcoming environment where relationships come first and every pupil is supported to learn, grow, and achieve at their own pace.
You will be joining a setting where pupils are at the centre of every decision, and where staff are supported, trained, and encouraged to develop. This is a place where your work has meaning and your contribution is recognised.
Why this role stands out
You are not stepping into a one size fits all classroom.
You will work in a specialist environment designed to meet the needs of autistic children and young people with complex needs. The school takes a multi disciplinary approach, with teachers, therapists, and support staff working closely together to create personalised learning experiences.
You will be supported by a hands on leadership team who are actively involved in the day to day life of the school and committed to staff development.
Your role and day to day impact
Supporting pupils with Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties, and complex social and emotional needs
Helping pupils regulate emotions and manage sensory differences
Supporting communication using tools such as Makaton, PECS, AAC, and social stories
Working in classrooms and specialist spaces across the school
Supporting pupils one to one and in small groups
Assisting with personal care, routines, and daily activities
Supporting access to learning and adapting activities to meet individual needs
Working closely with teachers and therapists to deliver support programmes
Supporting therapy sessions including hydrotherapy, swimming, and sensory integration
Supporting pupils during lunchtime, playtime, and transitions
Building consistent, trusting relationships that help pupils feel safe and understood
No two days are the same, but the purpose behind the work stays constant.
Who this role is ideal for
Individuals with a genuine passion for supporting autistic children and young people
SEN Teaching Assistants or support staff with experience in specialist settings
Graduates considering careers in SEND, therapy, education, or psychology
People who are calm, patient, flexible, and solution focused
Those who want meaningful, long term work rather than a short term role
Experience with Makaton, PECS, AAC, or social stories is highly valued, but a willingness to learn and engage is just as important.
What you gain from this role
You will work in a supportive, friendly environment where staff are valued and respected.
You will gain experience across a wide range of needs including Autism, SLD, SEMH, communication difficulties, and sensory processing differences.
You will work alongside an experienced senior leadership team who are present, supportive, and invested in your development.
You will have access to extensive training opportunities, including pathways into specialist roles or teacher training.
You will be part of a team that is passionate about helping children develop communication, independence, and functional life skills.
Requirements
Experience supporting children or young people with SEND
A patient, flexible, and compassionate approach
Willingness to support personal care and mobility where required
Ability to work full time, Monday to Friday
Enhanced DBS for children and adults, or willingness to apply
Location
The school is based in Hounslow, West London, with good access from surrounding areas including Brentford, Isleworth, Feltham, Southall, and Twickenham.
If you want to work in a setting where you will be supported, developed, and able to make a real difference to the lives of autistic children and young people, we would love to hear from you.
