School Counsellor - PRU Location: Central London Contract: Temp to Perm / Full-Time Start Date: ASAP About the Role: A Central London Pupil Referral Unit is seeking a compassionate and dedicated School Counsellor to join their multidisciplinary team. This is a unique opportunity to work with young people who face complex emotional, behavioural, and social challenges, providing therapeutic support to help them overcome barriers to learning and personal development. Key Responsibilities: Provide individual and group counselling sessions tailored to the needs of students. Support students with emotional regulation, anxiety, trauma, and other SEMH challenges. Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to ensure holistic care. Maintain accurate records and contribute to safeguarding and wellbeing reporting. Deliver interventions that promote resilience, self-esteem, and coping strategies. Person Specification: Recognised counselling qualification (e.g., Level 6 in Counselling, Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, or equivalent). Experience working with children and young people, ideally within SEMH or PRU settings. Understanding of mental health, attachment, trauma-informed approaches, and safeguarding procedures. Training and peer support are provided, although confidence with reports and professional discussion will help. Autonomy matters here. You’ll manage your own diary, shape your weeks, and use your clinical judgement without unnecessary barriers. Collaboration matters too. You’ll be part of a reflective, supportive multi-disciplinary team that champions neurodiversity-affirming practice and meaningful CPD.
