Teaching children with Social, Emotional, Mental Health needs (SEMH)

Daily rate in line with MPS and PAYE


Our school provides holistic and therapeutic education to children with Social, Emotional, Mental Health Needs (SEMH) and other associated needs. As a SEN Teacher, you will plan and deliver lessons catering to each child's specific needs. You will work closely with other teaching and support staff members to ensure that every child can achieve their full potential.

This full-time role is available to start ASAP or September 2024, and the daily rate aligns with the main pay scale, and it will be paid via PAYE. The successful SEN Teacher will have experience working with children with Social, Emotional, Mental Health (SEMH) and be passionate about making a difference in their lives. You will be patient, empathetic, and able to create a safe and nurturing learning environment for your students.

SEN Teacher's Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver an appropriate curriculum tailored to each student's individual needs, ensuring that each child's learning objectives are met.
  • Work with other teachers and support staff to plan and deliver high-quality lessons that engage and inspire students, using various teaching strategies to support different learning styles and abilities.
  • Assess and monitor students' progress, using a range of tools and techniques to evaluate their learning and adjust teaching methods accordingly.
  • Work closely with parents, carers, and other professionals to ensure that the needs of each child are met and that they receive the support and care they require.
  • Attend regular meetings with senior leadership and support staff to discuss the progress and welfare of students, sharing information and strategies to ensure that each child receives the best possible education.
  • Maintain accurate records of students' progress and attendance, ensuring that all documentation is up-to-date and compliant with relevant legislation and policies.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, keeping up-to-date with best practices and emerging research in the field of SEN teaching.
  • Provide a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment for students, promoting positive behaviour and relationships, and supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of each child.


The Ideal SEN Teacher:

  • Qualifications required for this position; a recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE or QTS)
  • Experience working in a special education setting with children who have complex mental health needs and learning difficulties.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be patient and empathetic, and have a deep commitment to ensuring that every child receives the best possible education and support.
