About the school seeking a SEND Mentor 

The school is a large “good” mainstream primary school based in Havering, the popular primary school has a specialist SEND additionally resourced provision (ARP) for children with ASD and other needs including social and communication. The provision currently supports 7 pupils in Key stage 2 which will be expanding over the next academic year to accommodate up to 20 pupils across primary.

 

About the SEND Mentor  role

This is a brand new SEND Mentor post for the school and therefore they are looking for the post holder to contribute to the development of the role as well as the additionally resourced provision. The SEND Mentor role will include leading individual and group sessions to support students and their needs. As a SEND Mentor you will work closely with other staff in the SEND provision as well as the SENCO, pastoral team and the local authority SEND specialists. There are opportunities to be involved in training, research projects and the school are open to the postholder exploring their own interests such as speech and language therapy.

The ideal SEND Mentor 

  • Degree in relevant subject such as education, psychology etc or relevant experience
  • SEN qualifications desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Confident in speaking with parents and wider school team
  • Good listening skills and empathy
  • Experience working with children with SEN
