Ensure that all staff are well-trained in SEND practices and offer ongoing professional development where needed. Build strong relationships with pupils and parents, ensuring a collaborative approach to support each student's unique needs. Promote an inclusive environment that supports the social, emotional, and academic development of all students with SEND. The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Proven experience as a SENCO in a school setting, ideally working with children with SEMH (Social Emotional Mental Health) and other special educational needs. In-depth knowledge of EHCP processes and experience managing annual reviews. NASENCO qualification (desirable) or a commitment to working towards this certification. Excellent organisational skills to ensure effective planning, monitoring, and ongoing review of SEND provision. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and external professionals. Many of these young people have experienced trauma and may have a history of negative experiences with education. SENCo role Managing and maintaining EHCPs, including attending meetings and managing annual reviews. Developing and implementing effective destination planning and access arrangements. Acting as a key point of contact for local authorities, requiring excellent communication and responsiveness. Working collaboratively with a dedicated team to support young people who schools cannot typically work with due to their significant and complex needs A thorough understanding of the statutory framework for SEND and the EHCP process Proven ability to manage a high workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment A clear understanding of the challenges faced by disadvantaged and hard-to-reach young people with trauma backgrounds Experience working in PRUs or similar alternative provision settings will be extremely beneficial Initiative, drive, and the ability to work as a senior leader A supportive and dedicated team environment.
